Self Defense Training and Safety
Guns keep people on equal footing regardless of age, size, psychical capacity. It makes it easier for muggers, through not allowing good people to defend themselves. Guns favor weak attacker, not a strong defender unlike unarmed or melee combat. It prevents people for using their physical strength and size to their advantage. Instead marksmanship and finesse is more important, which are much easier to train for then strength training and martial arts training.
Guns: It’s better to have one and not need it, than to need one and not have it.
Why would you need a combat rifle? To defend yourself against government, which is always based on coercion and violence, which can is always trying to become tyrannical. Good people won’t allow this to happen without a fight. They know that government has no right to take away their rights and freedom. Combat rifles are ultimately needed for shooting and killing multiple agents of the State should that become necessary.
Good people should be armed. Many people associate firearms with violence and bloodshed. Because decent people don't want violence and bloodshed, many instinctively dislike or fear firearms and support gun control, based on the assumption that outlawing firearms would mean reducing violence and bloodshed. In reality, this is not at all the case. Saying I don't want a firearm because I don't want violence and bloodshed is no more rational than saying I don't want an airbag because I don't want to crash. Of course, the reason people want airbags is not because they're eager to crash, but because they understand that in the unfortunate event that they do get into a serious accident. Having an airbag is very likely to reduce human pain and suffering. Firearms help if a violence attack does occur. Good people being armed can dramatically reduce or lessen pain and suffering of innocent people.
Everyone knows you shouldn't use something like a chainsaw if you don't know how to use it properly; or if you think you might hurt yourself or someone else. It's the same with firearms. If you don't feel comfortable with them, or you think you may hurt yourself or someone else, either don't have one or learn to use one properly. But make no mistake, if you do not possess the means and the willingness to forcibly defend yourself and your family that won't magically stop nasty people out there from hurting you. Ask yourself this simple question. If someday you happen to be where an armed thug or deranged killer strikes would people be better off if you were armed or if you were not armed.
Unfortunately, the bad guys of the world aren't nice enough to give advanced warning of where or when they intend to attack. If such an event does occur, they aren’t going to wait around for you to go and buy a gun so you can come back and stop them. You will either prepare ahead of time or you won't be prepared. Do you put your seatbelt on only when you're about to have an accident? Or is it better to wear all the time, even if you don't actually need it the vast majority of the time. Now, some politicians and pundits accuse those who support an individual's right to keep and bear arms of wanting violence to occur. You have to wonder with the same politicians and pundits also accuse people who wear seatbelts of wanting to crash. If there was some way to wave a magic wand and disarm all the bad guys in the world, that would be nice. But in the real world, the best chance the innocent have for staying safe and alive is for good people to possess the means to resist violent attackers.
The evidence shows that responsible people being armed reduces crime. Now think about this. We've all seen thousands of examples of bad guys in movies using guns.
But have you ever seen a Hollywood movie or TV show that depicted an average armed citizen preventing a crime? In real life, it happens all the time. So why does Hollywood almost never show what happening? Whether it's the result of ignorance or some political agenda, movie makers constantly misrepresent gun owners, and not only seem clueless about firearms and how they work, but seemed completely ignorant of even the most basic rules of firearm ownership rules, which millions of Americans know by heart:
1. Treat every gun as if it is loaded.
2.Always be aware of where the barrel is pointed, and never aim any gun loaded or not unless you have your sights on a target you are willing to destroy. You can Imagine your barrel is an infinitely long lightsaber that will cut anything it touches.
3.Whether your fingers on the trigger or not, don’t point at anything you don't intend to destroy. If you are not using hold the muzzle towards the ground.
4.Keep your finger off the trigger until you're ready to fire.
5.Always be aware of what is around and especially behind your target. And don't fire if you're not sure where the bullet might go or who or what it might hit. Be aware of the peneration of the ammo type you are using.
1. Keep a safe distance between your target and you. Be aware of the ricochet possibility, that is where you bullet bounces off something and continues to travel. Make sure when you are practice shooting to be far enough away from your target, especially if you are shooting something like glass, which could hit you if you are too close.
2.Always have a firm grip on the firearm to prevent dropping it or firing it at targets you do not wish to hit.
3.If you are holding your gun but not firing, it is best to hold the gun with the muzzle pointing towards the ground.
Even the supposedly good guys in movies violate these rules constantly. So it is no wonder so Americans are scared of firearms.
“The Gun Is Civilization” By Maj. L. Caudill, USMC (Retired)
Human beings only have two ways to deal with one another: reason and force. If you want me to do something for you, you have a choice of either convincing me via argument, or force me to do your bidding under threat of force. Every human interaction falls into one of those two categories, without exception. Reason or force, that’s it. In a truly moral and civilized society, people exclusively interact through persuasion. Force has no place as a valid method of social interaction, and the only thing that removes force from the menu is the personal firearm, as paradoxical as it may sound to some. When carry a gun, you cannot deal with me by force. You have to use reason and try to persuade me, because I have a way to negate your threat or employment of force. The gun is the only personal weapon that puts a 100-pound woman on equal footing with a 220-pound mugger, a 75-year old retiree on equal footing with a 19-year old gang banger, and a single guy on equal footing with a carload of guys with baseball bats. The gun removes the disparity in physical strength, size, or numbers between a potential attacker and a defender. There are plenty of people who consider the gun as the source of bad force equations. These are the people who think that we’d be more civilized if all guns were removed from society, because a firearm makes it easier for an armed mugger to do his job. That, of course, is only true if the mugger’s potential victims are mostly disarmed either by choice or by legislative fiat – it has no validity when most of a mugger’s potential marks are armed. People who argue for the banning of arms ask for automatic rule by the young, the strong, and the many, and that’s the exact opposite of a civilized society. A mugger, even an armed one, can only make a successful living in a society where the state has granted him a force monopoly. Then there’s the argument that the gun makes confrontations lethal that otherwise would only result in injury. This argument is fallacious in several ways. Without guns involved, confrontations are won by the physically superior party inflicting overwhelming injury on the loser. People who think that fists, bats, sticks, or stones don’t constitute lethal force watch too much TV, where people take beatings and come out of it with a bloody lip at worst. The fact that the gun makes lethal force easier works solely in favor of the weaker defender, not the stronger attacker. If both are armed, the field is level. The gun is the only weapon that’s as lethal in the hands of an elderly person as it is in the hands of a weight lifter. It simply wouldn’t work as well as a force equalizer if it wasn’t both lethal and easily employable. When I carry a gun, I don’t do so because I am looking for a fight, but because I’m looking to be left alone. The gun at my side means that I cannot be forced, only persuaded. I don’t carry it because I’m afraid, but because it enables me to be unafraid. It doesn’t limit the actions of those who would interact with me through reason, only the actions of those who would do so by force. It removes force from the equation… And that’s why carrying a gun is a civilized act.
In order to survive a shooting, whenever you are out in public, you must pay attention to your surroundings. Look for exits and covers around you. Notice who is armed around you or if someone has a suspicious bulge in the shape of a gun near their pockets or jackets. By identifying a potential threat, you can sometimes prevent an attack or protect you and your loved ones better. Use your gut feeling to determine if you think something wrong might be about to happen, it is probably right. Look for strange occurrences in your environment and odd behavior.
There are three courses of action:
1. Escape- Get as far away from the threat as possible, this should be easy if you were observant prior to the event.
2. Take cover. If you can’t escape, find cover and wait for the opportunity to escape or fight back. Make sure the cover is strong like a brick wall, not say plywood.
3. If you are armed and trained, use your abilities to remove the threat. Know that sometimes you can’t get a clear shot without putting others at risk. Know the power of your firearm and ammo. Will your bullets go through the perpetrator?
Know what gunfire sounds like, that way, if you can’t see it you know what it is, and immediately take action instead of being standing their being confused and vulnerable.
One of the common desires for mass shooter is to inflict as much damage as possible, so move away from the group as much as possible.
Don’t get down or play dead, action is better than inaction.
Listen for reload. After a certain amount of bullets have been fired, the gun must reload. The mass shooter is vulnerable during reload, however you will only have a few seconds if it is an experienced gunman.
Are you going to wait for someone to save you or are you going to save yourself? There comes a point in some situations where survival is unlikely if you don’t resist. Don’t go down without a fight if it comes to that, even if you are unarmed and untrained.
Some good martial arts include Krav Maga, Jui-Jitsu, Muay Thai, Kung fu and Tai Chi.
However, firearms are still superior to martial arts. The advantage of having a large magazine is that if you miss, which you likely will, you will still be able to hit you target as you will have still ammo in the gun before you must reload. Reloading requires to hands and a few seconds, maybe even minutes for an inexperience person. Also it may take multiple bullets to stop an attacker, or if there is multiple attackers.
When training to use a gun with simple ammo and no attachments, try to understand how your gun operates and the basic before you get the more advanced training. When you have decent experience with your weapon, you want to incorporate stress training. Stress training is important if you are going to carry you weapon on you or for home defense. Failing to do so once you have good training on the firearm is a waste of ammo, gas, club memberships, etc. You must incorporate stress training at some point in order to be proficient. You must be able to shoot, reload, know how much ammunition rounds (bullets) you have in your magazine, and be able to clear jams. Stress can cause you to act not normal to the point where you might not act as you would in a stress free environment of shooting at a range. You may panic, distress, or even worse, freeze.
Just because you aren’t looking for trouble doesn’t mean trouble won’t find you.
In order to simulate this, you should time yourself in order to induce the stress of time, compete in competitions, exercise intensively in short bursts, or participate in air soft or paint-balling.
You cannot completely rely on others for you self defense, unless you can afford to have bodyguards following you constantly. That is why you should be your own bodyguard. This is equivalent to the idea you don’t need to brush your teeth because you have a dentist. Considering that most people have learned to be their own chauffeurs, chefs and accountants, learning yet another skill won't be much different. The police will always be too late in an immediate combat scenario, if they even answer at all. The average response time for police is 5 minutes, in 5 seconds or less you can be killed.
Rifles are great for home defense because they have large magazines a can penetrate more effectively the most pistols. They are more accurate and do more damage.
Using force is not the same as attacking with violence. Some of these same people have no problem calling police if they were under attack. Which is more logical and caring: to let yourself and others you care about be accosted or to defend them? Surrendering to evil and criminals doesn’t guarantee safety, in fact the opposite, it only encourages them to continue. It is like throwing bloody meat into shark-infested waters, conditioning the sharks to expect easy pickings at your expense.
1 out of 100 people are willing to do harm to you if they could get away with it according to Jeff Cooper, a former director of the NRA and know as the “Gunners Guru”
Being alert is the first and possibly the most important principle you must know. This doesn’t mean you have to be paranoid, but just take a notice of what is going on around you. Be aware if something seems suspicious or makes you feel uncomfortable as well, that could be your intuition telling you something bad is about to happen. You use gut instincts, if a place doesn't feel safe don’t go there. Evaluate the situation and decide swiftly and decisively what to do.
Another is that if you are with a group of people, you must all work together to overpower the attacker if you are going to fight. The bystander effect is powerful and someone expects some else to initiate the fight, YOU must be the one, do not rely on others. If you can’t, call out certain individuals who can to help BY NAME. Certain situations have happened where an attacker could have been repelled if the group worked together to fight, but instead of choosing to fight they did nothing and became victims. When an attacker is overwhelmed, they are likely to retreat and not to continuing attacking, this is a primal survival instinct.
Speed is important. Self defense situations are extremely fast, usually they happen in a matter of seconds. You need good instincts and you want to be quick in order to prevent you attacker from being able to effectively react you. Speed is also a good intimation tactic, it could freak your opponent out and startle them. If you can punch someone in the face 20 times in 5 seconds, that will likely make them think twice. This is similar to the concept of a small cat scratching you quickly and your nature instinct is to back off, even though it did no significant damage.
You want to maintain your cool during these situations. You can train all you want on the range shooting and have 100% accuracy but if you cannot maintain your cool, you could miss every shot during these stressful situations.
“Ruthlessness” is also necessary for safety. If someone attacks you, do not worry about their safety, they are morally wrong for initiating the attack. Repel them with the same force they use against you, or threaten greater force in order to stop them. If that threat doesn’t work fire warning shots. Remember, the best thing to do is simply to escape the situation. Attack the attacker in the weak spots, poke their the eyes, groin, punch them in the neck.
Everything has the potential to be a weapon. A fist, hammer, bat, car, broken glass bottle, knives, etc.
Yelling help can also be effective, since someone may come and help you or the opponent may think someone is coming to help you. They will want to quiet you will be aiming for your month, you can use this as a distraction to hit them in a vulnerable area such as the groin.
Being successful is more important than being famous, being famous makes you a target. Avoid showing off your money or wear expensive clothes and jewelry which thieves may want to steal. Stay away from bars, loud places, a places were people do drugs. People are more likely to be violent at these places. Try to avoid going out a night in public areas, but if you must, stay in open well lit areas and be on high alert.
Handguns are ideal for self defense. There are light and small, making them easy to carry around and be used effectively, with the threat of quick and lethal force from a distance, unlike many other self defense tools like pepper sprays or knives. They can also be used one handed. The use of a handgun doesn’t always involve firing it, most criminals will stop when threatened with lethal force. If that doesn’t work, firing it will.
Thugs depend on non-resistance for success. When effective and swift resistance is offered, the attack usually stops.
Guns are an equalizer, that means that a young strong thug can fare just as well as an old frail grandma.
Rendering yourself defensiveness or supporting gun control will only leave you a victim of criminals. In addition, being in society that supports gun rights increases your safety even if you do not carry because that means criminals think you might be carrying or those around you will.
Taking precautions does not make the event more likely to happen. It is to prevent yourself from being a victim of an attacker or of circumstances.
A firearm is the greatest force multiplier, second only to a car. It has a greater potential for lethal force than even the most skilled martial artist, plus having the advantage of being able to threaten lethal force against an attacker and having greater range. That is why some guns are called peacemakers.
A number of people think that those who break into homes are only looking for stuff, but that may not be the case. They may be trying to kidnap, rape, or kill you. Reasoning and complying with them is a poor choice if you have the option to resist them. Pointing a gun at someone is not nice, but nether is breaking into someones home, remember that this is not an accidental act. Most burglars are trying to look for things they that are valuable that are light and they can grab quickly and leave before spotted. If you are not armed, the criminal will likely attack you in order to prevent you for calling for help. If you are armed, they likely will leave.
Some say you become the evil you fight, but this is not always the case. You do not become the evil you fight if you are fighting the evil with a strong backbone of principles. Self defense is not the same as aggression.
We do not necessary need barbed wire fence, mines, and sandbagged windows to be safe. Living righteous and peaceful lives will greatly improve our safety. Just as good health isn’t solely dependent on food or exercise, the same is true for being armed, each is an essential component of the whole.
Guns are not evil and only used for criminal purposes. Knives and matches are seen as mere tools, not able to conduct harm on their own. The same is true for guns, they are only tools used for self defense.
Most attackers attack if they they see fear in your eyes. Fear = easy to attack, won't fight back efficetvely. Could have gun. Attackers don't attack unless the detect fear, a fearless person scares attackers, they think you have a trick you are going to pull up your sleeve (maybe a gun) and will leave you alone.
Put you ego away when fighting. Focus on your survival. Do not be an aggressive person in your conversation and throw insults, this may provoke people into attacking you. Speak your mind of course and don’t let anyone boss you around, but careless insults and taunting will not help you in anyway. If someone is trying to attack you for what you said, simply apologize and put your hands towards them in an apologetic way. Also having your hands up is better than in your pocket so you can be ready to defend yourself, unless you have a weapon in your pocket. This position is called a chambered position, this used to prepare a punch or a gun. Sometimes the best thing to do with an attacker is to do what they tell you to do so you can live another day. An example is if you are being robbed say things such as “Don’t hurt me, I’ll give you whatever you want.” DO NOT say “Dude WTF are you doing back up”, this could trigger the criminal to hurt or kill you. By being submissive, you can trick your assailant into bringing their guard down since they will think you are being submissive and will not fight. At that moment, you strike them out of surprise. That, or it gives you an opportunity to run and call for help.
